Here at Virgin Money Australia, we’ve been in a giving mood of late.
Well we’re certainly smiling right now, as our most recent competition winner just got back from their world-class trip.
David, the winner of our original Super Stars & Supercars competition, was so elated by his trip to South America that we absolutely had to run the competition again. So we launched Super Stars & Super Cars 2.
We asked you all to vote on what you felt were the best prize destinations, and the results decreed they would be the US Super Bowl, Monaco Grand Prix or a music festival of the winner’s own choosing (anywhere in the world).
Entering was simple, too. If your employer made a regular Superannuation Guarantee Contribution to your Virgin Super account, or you voluntarily contributed some of your own money, you’d be in the draw!
The lucky winner – Stacey
That’s all Stacey from West Wodonga did when she entered herself in the chance to win big. She has been a customer with us for five years!
You can imagine her delight when we rang her and told her all about her amazing prize options.
“What a fantastic choice,” she said after the trip. “I was over the moon!”
Unfortunately for her, choosing between our three top-voted destinations was not going to be an easy one. However, Stacey set her heart on one particular option: the Super Bowl.
“The Super Bowl is a once in a life time event – it is so hard to get a ticket to go. I wanted to take the opportunity!”
She’s not kidding, either. Many American fans couldn’t even attend the event, as tickets were a rare commodity.
In fact, there was a huge commotion this year over the sales, as many ticket brokers sold tickets they didn’t actually have, according to ESPN. This was on top of the fact the price of each seat – even the seats normally cheapest – were more expensive than any year prior (we’re talking thousands of US dollars per seat).
This, of course, was no problem for Stacey, whose position at Arizona’s University of Phoenix Stadium was secured for the February 1 event thanks to Virgin Money Australia.
The amzing prize – Super Bowl XLIX
The 49th iteration of the US NFL’s famous event took place between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.
For those that don’t know, the Super Bowl is a single match played as the finale of the annual NFL (National Football League) season. Literally millions of people turn up or tune in to the game each year, planning entire parties around the match.
February’s game was the most-watched television event in American history, according to the International Business Times. On average, 114.4 million people were watching per minute of the NBC broadcast – that’s 35 per cent of the entire country’s population!
“It was incredible,” said Stacey. “Such a spectacular event. The atmosphere was amazing!”
The match was highlighted by a half time show by pop star sensation Katy Perry, then topped off with a fourth-quarter comeback by the New England Patriots (to win the game 28-34).
“What an amazing prize to be able to win,” Stacey stated upon her return. “[I’m] so thankful to Virgin for this opportunity. It’s an experience of a lifetime which I will never forget, and so thankful to have it come my way!”
