The fact that We’re going to Ibiza came out in 1999 is more than a piece of pub quiz trivia – it’s time-capsule type flashback that reminds you that it’s been more than a few years since you were dancing to this tune in your local discotheque.
However, Ibiza, a place synonymous with ‘party’, is much more suitable to grown ups and their travel insurance. So get ready to party like it’s 1999, as this is an island that knows how to attract the biggest partiers of them all.
Famous beach bums
Ibiza’s waters are the colour of Greek opal. Think deep oceanic blues flecked with rainforest patches of green – all right on the beach, and a fact not missed by the who’s who of the world’s A-listers.
On this island of beaches, Playa d’en Bossa is arguably the most famous, certainly the longest and potentially the one of the most expensive. La Salinas is the ‘cool’ place to go, surrounded by sand dunes and pine forests, and dotted with the odd celeb.
Names that grace the tabloids for their appearance on Ibiza’s beaches include the likes of Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Tyson Beckford, Naomi Campbell, Jared Leto, Kate Hudson, Zac Efron, Lindsay Lohan, our very own Kylie Minogue and more.
A history of fame
Today’s Tweeting, Instagramming and Snapchatting hordes of famous faces is only the latest iteration of celebrities making waves to the island.
Australian-born actor Errol Flynn was reportedly one of the first to count the island as a top holiday spot. Local high-end hotel El Corsario claims the actor was one of many famous faces who frequented their establishment, along with Grace Kelly, Romy Schneider and Walter Gropius.
Screen sirens Elizabeth Taylor and Ursula Andress are also said to have favoured the island.
The celebrity feuds
It’s Bieber vs Bloom, with the world in the audience and Ibiza as the stage. This now infamous feud went down in late July 2014 as the two stars butted heads in an Ibiza restaurant. The TMZ source that originally leaked the story also claims the famous faces of Paris Hilton and Diddy were in the club at the time.
Moral of the story? You could spot a celeb while on holiday in Ibiza. Also, probably best not to get into fisticuffs with one.
