Imagine if you had the chance to visit a Wonder of the World simply by using the PIN on your Virgin Money Credit Card?
Joanne had been shopping with her Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Credit Card, thinking nothing of it. Every time she made a purchase over $100 and used her PIN, she was entered into the Virgin Money PIN to WIN competition, which ran between 10 May and 20 June 2014. With fortune in her favour she became the lucky winner of the trip of a lifetime!
Winning the trip of a lifetime
Before heading off on her journey, Joanne told us that, “the phone call advising me I won was so unexpected, and I still find it hard to believe it is true.”
She didn’t travel alone, either. Joanne decided to pack her partner as her companion for the prize. To add to the fun, she made arrangements for her two kids (aged one and three at the time) and mother to also share in the travel experience.
In fact, taking her partner was a way to celebrate an early honeymoon, given their upcoming wedding in May 2015.
The difficult decision
Joanne still faced an incredibly difficult decision – where should she go? She got to choose one destination from seven Wonders of the World, including Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Great Wall of China and India’s Taj Mahal.
“I chose Mexico as I have been to four of the other wonders of the world, so it came down to the Great Wall, Taj Mahal or Chichen Itza,” she said. Though the decision was certainly tough, Joanne’s choice of Mexico was swayed by the fact that this way she could fly via the US and take her kids to see Disneyland as well!
“I am excited for my kids to experience it all. I love travelling to new places and seeing the history and culture, and I cannot wait to pass my love of travel on to my kids,” she stated before she left.
A family experience in Mexico
After the trip was over, Joanne and her family certainly had some stories to tell.
While in Mexico, the group were picked up from their hotel and whisked off onto an unparalleled 13-hour tour which took them past some of the country’s biggest attractions.
“We saw so many wonderful things, it was a beautiful day,” Joanne said.
They got to see a Mayan watering hole called Hibuku, in which the ancient people used to throw gifts to the gods. They were also taken to some of the local shops, as well as a tequila museum where they could sample some of the local produce. After that it was on to Chichen Itza itself, which Joanne claims was ‘awe-inspiring’.
The trip was made even better by their accommodation. “The hotel we stayed in was fantastic, especially with the two little ones. It was right on the beach and the sand was amazingly fine and soft, and the deck chairs and cabanas on the beach were great.”
And to think, all of that just by using her Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Credit Card.
