FAQs

  • What is a credit card?

A credit card is a way to get ‘credit’ from a bank, or in more simple terms borrow money from a bank up to a set limit. You can use a credit card the same way you would use a debit card, but you’ll need to remember to pay off the minimum amount each month by the set due date. With many credit cards you can also earn rewards or cashback on accepted purchases.

  • How do credit cards work?

A credit card gives you access to money (or ‘credit’) up to an agreed limit with your bank. You will receive a bill each month for what you have spent. As long as you pay the minimum amount required off before the due date each month, you will always have access up to your agreed credit limit.

  • How does credit card interest work?

The interest incurred on your credit card is charged when you don’t pay off your full balance by the set due date you can find on your credit card statements. How much interest you’ll pay will depend on the type of card you have, how much you have spent and when you make your repayments. Most credit cards also have an annual charge which is separate to credit card interest.

  • What is a good credit score?

Generally a score between 670-739 is considered ‘good’. 740-800 is considered very good and 800+ is considered excellent. We will determine your credit limit when we apply our credit assessment criteria to your individual financial situation.

  • What is a credit limit?

A credit limit is the maximum amount you can spend with a month on your credit card as agreed with your bank. The minimum & maximum credit limits vary for each credit card.

The credit limits for the Virgin Money Credit cards are:

    • No Annual Fee and Low Rate cards the maximum credit limit is $100,000 and the minimum credit limit is $2,000.
    • For Flyer cards the maximum credit limit is $100,000 and the minimum credit limit is $6,000.
    • For High Flyer cards the maximum credit limit is $100,000 and the minimum credit limit is $15,000.
    • For the Anytime Reward card, the maximum credit limit is $100,000 and the minimum credit limit is $6,000
  • How do I apply for a credit card?

Please note, applications for a new credit card are temporarily unavailable from 26 October 2025.

The first step is to compare our credit cards. Decide which product suits your needs, then once you have decided which card you would like to apply for, click ‘Apply now’. It should take less than 10 minutes to complete if you have all your info on hand, and once approved we'll have your Card out to you within 10 working days. We'll need to know your age, Australian residency status, your driver’s license if you have one and your current financial details including employment and monthly expense and income details.
