Q. How do I confirm my identity?
- A. Ask someone to be a referee.
They need to see your ID and tell us they've known you for at least one year. Your referee must be 'qualified' (which means they need to appear on the referee list) and they need to autograph the personal referee form, which you can download here:

Q. Who can be a personal referee?
- You must know one person from this list to be your referee:
1. Accountants (members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Australian Society of Accountants or the National Institute of Accountants)
2. Aldermen or Councillors of Municipal or Shire Councils
3. Bank, Building Society & Credit Union employees and agents authorised by their institution to open accounts
4. International Bank employees authorised by their institution to open accounts, where the International Bank engages in a transaction with a cash dealer (overseas customers must use an International bank referee).
5. Bailiffs
6. Barristers
7. Clerks of Courts
8. Clerks of petty sessions
9. Commissioned officers currently serving in the defence forces
10. Dentists
11. Diplomatic or consular officers of an Australian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate, either in Australia or overseas
12. Fellow member of the National Tax and Accountants' Association Ltd.
13. Holders of statutory offices for which an annual salary is payable
14. Insurance Company full-time employees who have been employed continuously for at least 5 years by such company
15. Judges and Masters of Federal, State and Territory Courts
16. Justices of the Peace
17. Member of the Institute of Engineers, Australia, other than a member with the grade of student
18. Members of an aboriginal community council and recognised community elders of an aboriginal community
19. Medical practitioners
20. Members of Federal or State Parliament
21. Members of the Legislative Assembly of the ACT, Northern Territory or Norfolk Island
22. Ministers of Religion who are authorised Marriage Celebrants
23. Notaries public
24. Nursing sisters
25. Pharmacists
26. Police officers in charge of Police Stations
27. Police officers of the rank of Sergeant and above
28. Postal managers
29. Public employees - current full-time employees of Commonwealth, State, Territory or Local Governments or Statutory Authorities, who have been a government employee for at least 5 years
30. Registrars of Federal or State Courts
31. Sheriffs
32. Solicitors
33. Stipendiary magistrates
34. Full-time teachers, who have been teaching for more than 5 years at schools or tertiary institutions

Q. How long does it take to prove my income and identity?
- A. As soon as we have all your ID and income stuff, we'll get your card in the post. If there is a problem, we'll give you a call.

Q, Why do I have to go through income and identity checks before I get my card?
- There are two main reasons:
1. The government says it's a must. To open an account with any financial institution you absolutely must have shown ID. This includes additional cardholders.
2. We need to be sure you are who you say you are. We've had the odd occasion where people have attempted to get a credit card with fake details.

- A. To give someone the green light to act on your behalf, we need you to fill in, sign and
return the third party authority form.
