Consolidating Your Super
If you've had more than one job, chances are you'll have more than one superannuation account and you'll be paying multiple fees.
Consolidating all your super accounts into one, could help you pay less in fees.
Just log into your Virgin Super online account and head to the ‘Rollovers‘ section under the ‘Contributions’ tab to complete your online rollover request. No paperwork or hassle.
You may have super sitting somewhere that you can’t quite put your finger on. To find and reclaim your super, grab your Tax File Number to find the details of all your super accounts, including any you have lost track of or forgotten about.
To find your lost super, you have the following options:
- Go online
- You can create a myGov account and link it to the ATO to have a full view of your super. This will allow you to view all your super accounts, including any you have lost track of and that may be held by the ATO as well as combining multiple super accounts into your preferred super account in a few clicks.
- You can also search for your super via the ATO’s SuperSeeker website. It only takes a few seconds and you’ll just need your name, date of birth and Tax File Number (TFN). Please note that this quick search tool will only provide details of lost or ATO-held super. For detailed information on all your super accounts you’ll need to create a myGov account.
- Call the ATO
- Use their self-help phone service, available 24/7 by calling 13 28 65 and press 1 then 2. You’ll need to provide your Tax File Number and your date of birth. Please note that this self-help search service will only provide details of lost or ATO-held super. For detailed information on all your super accounts you’ll need to create a myGov account.
- Call the ATO Monday to Friday, except public holidays, 8am to 6pm (Sydney time) on 13 10 20 or +61 2 6216 1111 from overseas. They’ll be able to perform a search for all your super accounts.
If you find any lost super and wish to consolidate to Virgin Super, you can contact the super fund that holds it and get your member details. Just log into your Virgin Super online account and head to the ‘Rollovers‘ section under the ‘Contributions’ tab to complete your online rollover request. No paperwork or hassle.
In April 2015, the UK Government made changes to the tax and pension rules governing UK pension schemes. These changes meant that many Australian super funds, including Virgin Super, are no longer a UK Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme (QROPS). If you wish to transfer your UK pension to a non-qualifying scheme (such as Virgin Super), you will be liable for additional UK tax charges on your transferred funds.
It is important that before you transfer any benefits you consider all your options. You should seek independent advice before deciding to transfer your UK pension to Australia.
If you wish to transfer your Virgin Super account to your KiwiSaver in New Zealand, you’ll need to complete a Trans-Tasman Transfer Application form.
