Organising a first date is a real balancing act. Get it right, and you’ve got a great story to tell your grandchildren. Get it wrong and you’ll be trying it all again with someone else.
When it comes to romance, spending big is no guarantee of success, but your credit card can certainly broaden your options, especially if you’re planning to pick up the tab rather than go Dutch. If you are looking for a new credit card, review the options available form Virgin Money. And if you’re looking for love in Sydney, here are 3 great first date ideas to suit different budgets.
The High Roller
The iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of Australia’s most famous landmarks. Climbing it with your date will be sure to get both your pulses racing (if only from the effort required). While the boiler suits and safety harnesses might not be the most romantic attire, this date is certainly memorable.
If you climb the bridge at dawn during peak season you’ll be looking at $600 or so for the two of you, so this is our expensive option. The views though are epic and you’d be very unlucky not to get a first kiss as the sun comes up over the harbour.
The Middle of the Road
In Sydney, you’re never far from a beautiful view – so why not make the most of your romantic setting by packing up a gorgeous gourmet picnic? It will certainly be easier on your budget (and your legs) than climbing the Harbour Bridge.
If you’re a whizz in the kitchen, you can make up some sandwiches, a posh salad and some fresh fruit for dessert. But if you prefer to let your credit card do the hard work, you can buy a ready-made hamper. The Sydney Picnic Company, for example, offers a range of great gourmet picnics from $145 for two people which includes indulgent delicacies like chargrilled artichokes, feta, olives, a selection of meats and marinated strawberries as just some of the tasty treats.
Cead, which is part of Sydney Harbour National Park, offers stunning harbour views. You’ll find a similar – and no less spectacular – vantage point from South Head, which is also home to the charming and historic Hornby Lighthouse. If you time your visit right, you might even be treated to a romantic sunset.
The Budget Option
If you’re on a really tight budget, Sydney has no shortage of amazing beaches to explore – and whether you have an adventurous spirit or simply want to get to know your new love interest better in a beautiful setting, the beach can be a great first date venue.
You might want to take things slow with a leisurely stroll – or if you’re feeling particularly active, the walk between Bondi and Coogee or the Manly to Spit trail could be just the ticket. You’ll have plenty of time to see if you’ve got anything in common while you take in the beautiful scenery – and it’s all free!!
