Jet setting around the world to attend music festivals in exotic countries is only for superstars or the super-rich, right?
For one Virgin Super member the experience was very real indeed. What’s better, he hardly lifted a finger to make it happen.
Super Stars & Super Cars
In 2013 Virgin Money hosted a competition called Super Stars & Super Cars. It was very easy to enter – when the competition period ended, all you had to do was be a Virgin Super member, have a positive super balance and have made at least one contribution – be it from your own pocket or your employer.
Dave ticked all the boxes. He was a Virgin Super member but he had no idea that his employer’s regular contributions were about to send him half way around the world on the ultimate once-in-a-lifetime holiday.
A prize like no other
We caught up with Dave to find out about what was going through his mind when he won.
“I normally never win anything so it came as quite a shock when I found out that I won the trip,” he said.
“At first I thought the phone call from Virgin Money was a prank, however I soon realised that the competition was real and I would soon be going on a fantastic trip.”
Dave had a choice between three destinations when he won the competition: The F1 Grand Prix in Monaco, a red carpet event anywhere in the world or a trip to see his favourite musical act in a city of his choice.
“I was tempted to choose the Grand Prix, however I had already visited Monaco. By choosing the music festival, it allowed me to explore a different corner of the earth,” he told us.
So, with all the possibilities in the world, Dave decided to go with Creamfields, Buenos Aires.
“I have always been a fan of dance music, so when I discovered Creamfields in Buenos Aires, I knew that would be the perfect festival.”
“I was excited to experience a music festival with a South American flair. Creamfields enabled us to see some great DJs while taking in the Latin America culture.”
The prize he won included more than just tickets to a festival show. Dave enjoyed three nights in a four-star hotel, a dinner for two in a ‘celebrity frequented restaurant’, complimentary Virgin Travel insurance, return flights for him and his guest, and even private transfers around the city.
What did Dave get up to?
As you can imagine, Dave’s holiday was pretty fantastic.
One of the first activities Dave and his guest did was attend a football match.
“We went along to watch River Plate vs Estudientes in Buenos Aires and we had no idea what we were in for,” he said.
“The chanting from the River Plate fans was unlike anything we had seen before at a sporting match. Argentineans are definitely mad about their football.”
The hotel and restaurant prizes were a hit, too. Dave told us that the hotel was one of the nicest in Buenos Aires, and the meal “rated as one of (their) best dining experiences.”
As for the festival itself, he got to see some amazing acts. David Guetta was there, as was Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike. It went off without a hitch, and Dave and his guest even managed to make some new friends while they were dancing!
That wasn’t the end, either. Dave and his guest also went to see Machu Pichu in Peru.
“A few sentences could never be enough to describe our experiences in South America,” he said.
“This trip was one of the greatest things that I have done in my life and I cannot recommend South America enough to any other budding travellers.”
Where would you go if you won a competition like this?
