What types of pets does Virgin Money Pet Insurance cover?

We cover domestic dogs and cats that belong to you and live primarily at your home address in Australia.

What are pre-existing conditions?

A pre-existing condition is a condition your pet already had before your policy starts or develops during waiting periods.

For permanent conditions, we only cover them if they start after the waiting period ends. We may cover temporary conditions if your pet is fully cured and symptom-free after 12 months.

What are my excess options?

Everyone’s budget is different, so we offer excess options to match. You can choose your excess, with multiple options from $0 to $1,250.

What are the waiting periods?

A waiting period is the time after your policy first starts or after you first took out an optional extra during which your pet isn’t covered for certain illnesses or injuries.

How do I submit a claim?

To submit a claim, you need to:

  1. Pay your bill: keep your invoice – it should include details like the business or vet name, the items you’re claiming for, costs, and more
  2. Submit your claim: the fastest way to submit your claim is online through your account. Log in to insurance.virginmoney.com.au/my-account and follow the online claim prompts, or call 1300 862 860
  3. Provide supporting documents: this includes things like the itemised invoice receipt, vet notes, or your pet's vet history

If you’re feeling proactive, you can speed up your claim by submitting your pet's medical history but don’t worry if you don’t have it. We work with your vet to get the info we need to assess your claim.
